Hoyer Meets with NARFE Representatives

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) met with the  National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association in October.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the earned pay, retirement and health care benefits of federal employees, retirees and their survivors. NARFE was founded in 1921 and continues to advocate for members before Office of Personnel Management, members of Congress and the White House.

The organization has close to 300,000 members with 1,300 chapters across the country, including many in Maryland’s Fifth District.

The NARFE mission statement includes promoting the general welfare of current, retired and potential federal employees and their dependents. The group also fights to oppose legislation that it sees as being harmful to retired federal employees and their dependents.

Congressman Hoyer discussed ways to support the federal workforce at the meeting with local NARFE representatives. Congressman Hoyer represents 62,000 federal employees in the Fifth District of Maryland.

“Federal employees have already contributed $168 billion to deficit reduction, and I strongly oppose efforts to continue to target their pay and benefits,” Congressman Hoyer said. “If we are to recruit talented personnel and have the best civil service in the world, then we must ensure our workers are treated fairly. I will continue to work closely with NARFE and others to advocate on behalf of hardworking federal employees who strengthen the security and well-being of our nation.”

The NARFW mission is both critical to its members and timely, according to the NARFE.org website. The US Congress and the administration continue to consider cuts to federal pay and benefits. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association is always looking for new members to strengthen its mission. Each new member strengthens our message to Congress, fortifies our national outreach, and demonstrates their dedication to maintaining a strong and effective federal workforce.
