The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland got a special opportunity to speak to Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) on March 15. Hoyer met with Boys & Girls Clubs CEO Joy Hill.

The organization, located in North Beach, MD, provides services and programs to children between 5 and 18. One of its top priorities is to help members succeed in school and to make their education relevant by applying their knowledge and skills to daily challenges.

“I was pleased to welcome Joy to Capitol Hill today and to hear about the positive things they are doing at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland,” Congressman Hoyer said. “As a proud Boys & Girls Clubs of America alumnus, I’ve been a strong advocate for the clubs in Congress. The work they are doing at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland – from afterschool mentoring programs and providing meals to leadership and team building in sports and recreation – is important to the children in Maryland’s Fifth District. I look forward to continuing to work with Joy and her staff, and to support their efforts to make a real impact in the lives of our children.”

On that same day, Congressman Hoyer was awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Champion of Youth Award during an event in Washington, DC. The congressman was honored for his distinguished leadership and commitment to helping the nation’s young people reach their full potential.
