Home Hazardous Waste Disposal Re-scheduled Dec. 1

The St. Mary’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation wishes to remind residents that the next household hazardous waste collection day will take place this Saturday, December 1.

The fall collection event, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 3, was hazardous waste signrescheduled due to Hurricane Sandy.

The household waste collection site will be located at the St. Andrews Landfill, ¼ mile west of the MD 4 and MD 235 intersection in California and open between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Hazardous waste items which will be accepted for collection include Acids, Ammonia, Bleach, Cleaners, Fuels, Gas/Oil Mixtures, Gasoline, Household and Lawn Pesticides, Mercury Thermometers, Paint, Paint Thinners, Photography Chemicals, Pool Chemicals, Solvents, and Wood Preservatives.

Items which will not be accepted include Ammunition, Asbestos, Explosive Materials, Medical Waste, Pharmaceuticals, Radioactive Materials, and Picric Acid.
