Have You Registered to Vote Yet?

2024 Presidential General Election Day is just a few weeks away on November 5, and early voting begins October 24 for one week.

To be a registered voter in St. Mary’s County, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Resident of the county
  • United States citizen
  • At least 18 on or before the next General Election
  • Not disqualified as outlined by Maryland state law

To register to vote, a resident must complete a voter registration form and return it to the St. Mary’s Board of Elections office.

There are several ways to obtain the form:

  • Call 301-475-4200, ext. *1625 to request an application to be mailed to you
  • Visit the Board of Elections office at 23250 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown
  • Pick up an application at the county libraries, MVA, post offices
  • Download a Voter Registration Application Form
  • Complete an online voter registration application

Here are some important dates and deadlines to know:

Tuesday, October 15, 2024
The last day to register to vote or update your voter info online or by mail. Registrations being mailed must be postmarked by October 15, 2024.

Thursday, October 24, 2024 – Thursday, October 31, 2024
Early Voting
You can cast your vote before election day at an early voting center. Polls are open from 7am to 8pm. As long as you’re in line by 8pm, you will be able to cast your vote.

By Tuesday, October 29, 2024
Deadline to Request a Mail-in Ballot Delivered by Mail or Fax
If you want to receive your mail-in ballot via mail or fax, your request must be received (not just mailed) or submitted online by October 29.

Deadline to Request a Mail-in Ballot Online
If you want to receive your mail-in ballot via email, you’ll need to submit your request online by 11:59pm November 1, 2024.

Tuesday, November 5, 2024
Election Day
This is the final day you can cast a vote. Polls are open from 7am to 8pm. As long as you’re in line by 8pm, you will be able to cast your vote.

By or Before Tuesday, November 5, 2024
By mail: Make sure your mail-in ballot is postmarked by or before 8pm November 5, 2024. To make sure your ballot is counted, state officials recommend you return it as soon as you have filled it out.
By hand: You also have the option of hand-delivering your ballot to an approved drop box or local board of elections by 8pm on Election Day.

2024 Presidential General Election will be held Tuesday, November 5 (7am-8pm).
