Golf Classic Raises Money for Scholarships

Golf Classic

For 25 years, the College of Southern Maryland Foundation has been raising money with the annual Golf Classic. The event’s Grand Tournament Sponsor, Marrick Homes, is celebrating along with the foundation as they plan this year’s event, set for Thursday, Aug. 18, at Swan Point Yacht & Country Club.

The Golf Classic has a long history of creating partnerships that have directly impacted hundreds of students over the years. The event brings together golf lovers, alumni from the college, leaders from the civic and business community, and more to raise more than $700,000 that has gone to the college’s credit and non-credit students, as well as athletic programs.

Every event has been held at Swan Point in Issue. Golfers and sponsors can join the foundation and Marrick Homes as they support these vital scholarships and programs.

This year’s event is also the 15th year Marrick Homes has been the lead sponsor of the event, and the company has pledged to be the Grand Tournament Sponsor for the next four years.

Sen. Thomas “Mac” Middleton, a 1966 graduate of the college, will be the honorary guest this year, and he will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his graduation at the homecoming-themed golf tournament.

Other CSM alumni and former athletes from the college are expected to attend as well.

The Golf Classic day will begin with check-in and breakfast at 7:30 am. The shotgun start is 9 am, and the format is captain’s choice. Golfers get lunch and refreshments on the course. Dinner and silent auction will begin at 3 pm, and there will be closest-to-the-pin and longest drive contests for men and women.

If golf isn’t your thing, it’s still possible to participate in the tournament by trying the Sip and Swing for an IMPACT. Learn the game or improve your skills by enjoying a relaxed day of golf instruction paired with a wine tasting. Check in at 11:15 am, then enjoy the food and wine tasting at 11:30. At 1 pm, there will be clinics for putting, chipping, and full-swing techniques. Later, join the other golfers for the dinner and silent auction.

Sponsors will gain exposure for their businesses at the tournament where more than 200 golfers, community leaders, volunteers, and students will be present. Also, sponsors’ company names will be displayed on print materials, electronic, and social media campaigns.

There are several levels of sponsorships available. With top-tier sponsorships, companies will have scholarships created in their names. There also is an Alumni Row, where former CSM graduates may purchase signs with their names and their year of graduation on them. The signs are displayed at the tournament. Proceeds from Alumni Row will benefit the CSM Alumni Scholarship.

Visit here for sponsor, golfer, Alumni Row, and Sip and Swing registrations. Sponsorships and golfer registration deadline is Aug. 5. The Sip and Swing early bird cost will be $75 per person, or $100 per person after July 31.
