Ganz

Brian Ganz will continue his PianoTalk series at St. Mary’s College of Maryland at 11:20am Tuesday, November 18. The free talk will feature Fryderyk Chopin’s Barcarolle, Op. 60.

The program, which will take place in the recital hall of the Dodge Performing Arts Center on the college campus, is titled “CHOPIN’S BARCAROLLE: Song of the Sea.” Mr. Ganz will offer a discussion of the work and then perform it in its entirety.

“Chopin’s Barcarolle is considered by many to be his single greatest work,” Mr. Ganz said. “My teacher Leon Fleisher even suggested to me once that he considered it quite possibly the single greatest work for the piano. A Barcarolle is a work that captures the rhythms of the sea and often the singing of the iconic Venetian gondoliers. Chopin expresses both along with an astonishing rainbow of harmonic colors. It is enchanting beauty from first note to last.”
