Festival to Celebrate St. Mary’s River

St. Mary's River

St. Mary’s River Watershed Association’s RiverFest, a celebration of the river and its watershed, will be held from 11am to 4pm September 28, 2024, in St. Mary’s City. The Patuxent Partnership is one of the event sponsors.

Discover 101 ways to protect and enjoy local waterways, live music, and tours of Historic St. Mary’s City. Visit exhibits and vendors from Southern Maryland. Come face‐to‐face with birds of prey, snakes, terrapins, and other seldom‐seen neighbors. Join a ceremonial wade-in at 2pm.

Pride of Baltimore II will be docked at the HSMC waterfront and will be open for deck tours from 10am to 4pm.

Among the activities will be a rain barrel workshop from 1 to 1:45pm. Join Caroline DiGiovanni, watershed restoration educator from the University of Maryland Extension, to learn all about rain barrels. The presentation will be approximately 30 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session. The presentation will cover the environmental benefits of using rain barrels to retain stormwater collected from roof tops. Rooftop runoff collection, use, and safety considerations will be discussed. Finally proper installation and maintenance of rain barrels will be covered. Participants will have the opportunity to purchase rain barrels for pick up at a later date.

More information about the day’s activities can be found here.

Event address: 18751 Hogaboom Lane in St. Mary’s City, MD.
