Extended Hours, New Name for PromptCare

PromptCare

A small change has come to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital’s Express Care, but most patients won’t notice much difference. Express Care transitioned to MedStar PromptCare on Aug. 8, 2016, so the offices in Charlotte Hall and Waldorf, MD, now have a new name.

Chief Operating Officer Jim Craver of MedStar PromptCare said the change is a natural extension of MedStar Health’s approach to health care distribution.

“Because Express Care is an urgent care facility, it is only natural its operations move to MedStar PromptCare,” Mr. Craver said.

Patients at the Charlotte Hall location will not see a big difference, Mr. Craver said. The changes include that operations will be directed by MedStar PromptCare policies and procedures; plus signs in the building and office will change to reflect the new name.

“MedStar PromptCare is excited to be bringing expanded health care services to northern St. Mary’s County and Charles County,” Mr. Craver said.

Associates who work in the office have been given the opportunity to transfer employment from the hospital to MedStar PromptCare. “When we began planning for this, we fully expected to transition 100 percent of associates,” Mr. Craver said. Associates who did not want to move to MedStar PromptCare were given the opportunity to stay with MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in comparable positions.

One change that patients will notice, however, is that the hours have been extended. The Charlotte Hall location will have new hours of 3 to 11 pm weekdays and from 10 am to 8 pm weekends and holidays. Patients can still call ahead and make appointments and imaging and laboratory screenings will remain onsite.

“Bringing MedStar PromptCare to the community offers great benefits for our patients and our hospital,” said Dr. Stephen Michaels, chief operating officer and chief medical officer of MedStar St. Mary’s. “[It] will give patients greater access to primary care in our community, which will hopefully translate to decreased volumes in our emergency department and greater patient satisfaction.”

Waldorf PromptCare Opening

A new MedStar PromptCare opened in Waldorf on Aug. 9. At 3064 Waldorf Market Place, the office will share space with a new MedStar Medical Group primary care office. The facility will have two entrances. However, some of the back office areas will be shared space. The Waldorf office will be open from 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday and 8 am to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.
