CSM Nonprofit Institute Offers Courses
The Nonprofit Institute at the College of Southern Maryland has many worthwhile events in the works — courses on important nonprofit topics, special networking meetings and forums, and opportunities to enhance an organization’s outreach through online services hosted by the institute.
There is still time to tap into these resources.
An Executive Directors Roundtable will be held 8:30 to 9:30 am Jan. 25 in Room 124 in the Center for Business and Industry on the La Plata campus. Join colleagues for coffee and conversation. Do you know where your organization is in its life cycle? The group will spend the first minutes exploring the topic and what the stage of development means for the job of chief executive. “Secrets of Effective Board Recruitment” will be offered at two locations. Achieving an exceptional board depends on its makeup and its commitment, individually and collectively, to advance the organization’s mission. Ms. Mills will help nonprofits design a plan for strengthening recruitment efforts. The first class will be 1 to 4:15 pm Jan. 27 at the CSM Leonardtown campus at 22950 Hollywood Road. The second class will be 1 to 4:15 pm Feb. 10 at the La Plata campus at 8730 Mitchell Road.
Another upcoming course is “Building an Exceptional Board.” Sign up for a lively course on board-building. It is scheduled on a Saturday to accommodate board members who cannot attend on workdays. The course is an opportunity to examine and reflect on a board’s central role. The instructor will be James Wilson. The course will be offered 9 am to 12:15 pm Jan. 30 on the La Plata campus.
The Executive Directors Learning Circle will meet 8:30 to 9:30 am Feb. 10 in Building A, Room 206 on the Leonardtown campus. Bring news and ideas for a stimulating hour of conversation. Pick up coffee on the way; snacks will be provided. Call Harriet Yaffe at 240-256-0610 or reach her by email.
