CSM Honors 9/11 Responders with Heroes Campaign

9/11 Pentagon memorialJoin us as the La Plata Student Government Association and the CSM Foundation kick off the 2012 CSM Heroes Campaign and help us honor our brave veterans and first responders. The La Plata SGA will be handing out yellow ribbons and patriotic pens on the patio of the LR Building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  SGA members will also have flip cameras available to videotape testimonies about your 9/11 memories and heroes.

Special Local Heroes will be pinned by SGA members at 11:30 a.m. Attending are:

  • Lawrence Abell, President of the Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum, Vietnam Veteran (US Navy Engineer Corps), Life Member of the 10th District Fire Department and former Charles County Community College student.
  • Elizabeth Varesko, current St. Mary’s County student majoring in Emergency Medical Services and Fire Science Technology.

The CSM Heroes Campaign supports CSM military veteran students who qualify for benefits under the Veteran’s Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program and students majoring in first responder program of study (EMS, Criminal Justice, Fire Science Technology and Homeland Security).
