Eudora Tak is this year’s Patuxent Partnership’s Pathways to Engineering Scholarship Recipient. Ms. Tak  will attend the College of Southern Maryland’s working toward a mechanical engineer degree from the University of Maryland.

The College of Southern Maryland partners with the University of Maryland to crate a seamless pathway to a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Upon completing the engineering curriculum at CSM and securing an Associate of Science Engineering Degree, students are able to transfer, with junior status, into the University of Maryland to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Students can take all the classes in Southern Maryland. After completing the Associate of Science Engineering degree at CSM, students are able to take the rest of their junior and senior classes with the University of Maryland at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center.

Students enrolled in this program will typically have three classes per semester at SMHEC and one class at UMD’s College Park Campus. An additional class may be taken online or through an electronically based distance education service.

CSM students also have the opportunity to intern with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), a division of NAVAIR. Upon successful graduation and completion of all Pathway Program requirements, the successful intern will also have a possible employment opportunity.

NAWCAD and UMD have established a state-of-the-art Engineering Laboratory dedicated to support junior- and senior-level engineering courses at SMHEC.
