Student Wins Handbook Cover Design Contest

The 2016-2017 Technology Handbook for St. Mary’s County is now available through the St. Mary’s County Department of Economic Development, and Hannah Wichrowski, a student at Leonardtown High School, was the cover designer. Ms. Wichrowski won a design contest that was sponsored by The Patuxent Partnership.

The full-color handbook has many new features this year, including a map of Patuxent River Naval Air Station, interesting facts about the base and its surrounding community, and recognition for the businesses that were founded in St. Mary’s County.

“This year’s Technology Handbook shows the incredible depth and versatility of our technology businesses,” Chris Kaselemis, director of the St. Mary’s County Department of Economic Development, said. “Most of these companies were founded locally and many are now venturing into commercial and international markets.”

Ms. Wichrowski is a senior at Leonardtown High. She received a $1,000 prize for winning the contest sponsored by The Patuxent Partnership. Gene Townsend awarded the cash prize to Ms. Wichrowski on behalf of TPP.

Ms. Wichrowski is enrolled in a graphic communications course through the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. She plans to pursue a bachelor of fine arts degree and start a career in graphic design.

“We are so proud to feature Hannah’s artwork on this year’s cover of the Technology Handbook,” Commissioner President Randy Guy said. “You know the county’s future is in good hands when you see talent such as this.”

The new Technology Handbook will soon be available in its online searchable format through the Department of Economic Development’s county website.
