Community Emergency Response Team Training Offered
The St Mary’s County Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the following CERT training opportunity for the citizens of St. Mary’s County:
- April 28, and April 29, 2012 (two day class) 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Location – Dept. of Public Safety, 23090 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown MD
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates citizens about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
The St Mary’s County Department of Public Safety encourages anyone with an interest in public service to take the CERT Training. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a CERT Team member.
To attend this CERT Training class or for more information, please call the Department of Public Safety, Emergency Management Division at 301-475-4200 Ext. 2124 or email [email protected].
