Call for: Parent Education Program Calendar
A short-term workgroup from the Behavioral Health Action Team is organizing with the goal of developing a master calendar of parent education opportunities in St. Mary’s County for fiscal year 2015, which begins July 1, 2014.
Parent education programs focusing on prevention (early childhood behaviors, substance abuse, mental health, etc.) have been an ongoing point of discussion in various community meetings.
This development of a master calendar of educational opportunities is an important step toward coordinating efforts for greater community awareness and support of these issues and concerns.
The Behavioral Health Action Team seeks all persons interested in helping to determine what type of programs to include, identify those programs, and determine how to distribute the information developed among the community.
The workgroup will meet three times, Thursdays, on June 26, July 10, and July 24, 3 pm in Room 14 of the Potomac Building, Leonardtown, MD, 20650.
Discussion on prevention principles and effective parent education programs.
Define the scope – what types of programs to include.
Generate an initial list of local programs and determine who will contact for more info. July 10
Review rough draft of identified local parent education programs, info, and calendars.
Discussion on promotion – where (schools, etc.) and types of materials. July 24
Review and approval of materials for dissemination.
