Auditions Set for CSM Fall Theater Season

auditions

Auditions for the fall theater season at the College of Southern Maryland will be held from 6 to 8 pm Aug. 8 and 9, 2016, in the Fine Arts Center Theatre on the La Plata Campus. CSM is planning four in-house productions for the fall. Auditions are open to the public.

Performers age 8 and older are needed for a Children’s Threatre performance of “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and the Main Stage musical “Pinocchio.” Performers who are 18 and older are needed for Main Stage’s “The Runner Stumbles” and Cause Theatre’s “Benched.” Anyone interested in these roles needs to prepare a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song with music for the accompanist — no a cappella. Those auditioning should show up dressed to move.

The play “The Runner Stumbles,” by Milan Stitt, is based on a turn-of-the-century trial after the murder of a nun in a remote parish in Michigan. Performances at the La Plata Campus are set for 7:30 pm Sept. 8 and 15, 8 pm Sept. 9, 10 and 16, and 3 pm Sept. 17.

The play “Benched,” by Allyson Currin, is about three women who meet every day at the same park bench to laugh, complain and commiserate about their experiences in motherhood. Performances will be held at all three campuses. Shows at the La Plata Campus at 8730 Mitchell Road will be 7:30 pm Sept. 22, 8 pm Sept. 23 and 3 pm Sept. 24. The Prince Frederick Campus at 115 J. W. Williams Road will host the performance at 2:30 pm Sept. 29. The show will be at 8 pm Sept. 30 at the Leonardtown Campus at 22950 Hollywood Road.

The play “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” dramatized by Joseph Robinette, is a theater version of C.S. Lewis’ classic, set in the amazing land of Narnia. The play recreates the mystery and magic of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. Shows at the La Plata Campus will be at 7:30 pm Oct. 7, and 2 and 7:30 pm Oct. 8.

The musical “Pinocchio,” written by CSM Technical Director H. Keith Hight with music and lyrics by W. Stokes, brings the classic tale of the wooden puppet who wanted to be a real boy to the stage. It is a new musical and theatrical adaptation based on the original novel by Carlo Collodi. The show will be performed at the La Plata Campus at 7:30 pm Nov. 10 and 17, 8 pm Nov. 11, 12 and 18, and 3 pm Nov. 19.

The box office for all three campuses is in the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus. To reach the box office, call 301-934-7828 or email [email protected].
