The due-date for applications for over 100 scholarships available to College of Southern Maryland students is May 31.
The College of Southern Maryland Foundation manages more than 100 scholarships that help provide financial assistance for merit and for students in need.
In addition to general studies programs, scholarship categories include nursing, business, childcare, criminal justice, communications, fine arts, engineering, hospitality, social sciences, teacher education and nuclear engineering technology.
CSM’s online scholarship finder makes it easy to find the best option for you. By answering a few basic questions, students are guided to the scholarships that best suit them. Students can apply for scholarships geared toward cancer survivors, returning adults and veterans, as well as for non-credit trades and continuing education programs.
“Many of our students rely on scholarships in order to attend CSM. Since Scholarship Finder was introduced in 2009, we’ve seen a tremendous increase in applicants,” said Martina Arnold, CSM development director. “The process is extremely user-friendly and guides students directly to scholarships for which they are most eligible and allows them to apply for multiple scholarships with one unified application. Last year, the CSM Foundation awarded more than $303,000 in scholarships to help CSM students pursue and complete their degrees at the College of Southern Maryland.”
Students register at online and use the scholarship application system to answer questions pertaining to their education (such as high school, year of graduation, etc.), finances (income, work status), county residence, responsibilities (dependents, volunteer activities, etc.) and educational goals (intended major, program of study, projected graduation date, etc.). The system then takes the students’ answers and matches them to scholarships available only through the CSM Foundation.
“What I like about the program is that students are guided directly to the local scholarships that best match their situation, thereby increasing the chances the students might receive an award,” said CSM Development Specialist Erika Abell.
