Volunteer at Robotics Competition April 16

Robotics

There will be many volunteers at the LEGO Robotics Competition, but more are still needed, and The Patuxent Partnership is hoping to send extra help to the April 16, 2016, event.

College of Southern Maryland staff, faculty, and students volunteer for the event, but there is always a need for more help. Every team is required to have at least one volunteer for one of the CSM championship robotics events. The event is held at the CSM La Plata campus at 8730 Mitchell Road.

Volunteers help as referees, score keepers, robot inspectors, set-up and clean-up and many, many more jobs on the day of the competition. If you can spare any time at all to help with this exciting competition, sign up on the Volunteer Signup page, using the access code csmrobotics.

The competition this year is sponsored by the Dominion Foundation and uses the LEGO Mindstorm/EV3 Robotics Systems as the competition platform. Competitors at this event are students in the surrounding elementary and middle schools.

The challenge for this year’s competition is called World Class: teams have worked to build robots that can compete in the challenge and then must complete a research project that is related to the challenge. On the day of the competition, teams will be appear before a panel of judges.

Elementary teams will compete in the morning, then middle school teams will compete in the afternoon.

Team robots will perform at least three matches, where the team must demonstrate their robots’ ability to compete and earn as many points as they can.

CSM has been calling for volunteers, but more help is always appreciated.

The Patuxent Partnership works with government, industry, and academia on initiatives in science and technology, hosts programs of interest to NAVAIR and the broader DoD community, and supports workforce development including education initiatives and professional development.
