Dogs Taken During Raid Being Cared for at County Adoption Center

St. Mary’s County residents might consider donating supplies, serving as a foster home, or volunteering at the county’s animal adoption center after it came into possession of over 30 dogs after a police operation.
A St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Office operation last week resulted in the removal of more than 30 dogs from a home where they were living in unsanitary and unsafe conditions. The animals were taken to the St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption and Resource Center, where they are receiving medical attention, behavioral assessments, and care.

“Our primary focus is ensuring these animals receive the care they need,” said Jen Utz, director of the Department of Emergency Services. “The health and safety of our community and its animals remain our top priority.”
While this is an ongoing investigation, no additional details can be shared at this time. St. Mary’s County Animal Services and the sheriff’s office appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as they work to resolve the case.
