Forbes’ Rick Unger called Defense Secretary nominee Ashton Carter “one of the all-time champions … [of] shockingly wasteful military spending and … the ugliest cost overrun … in US military history.”

Fortune Magazine gives a synopsis of the administration’s DoD FY16 budget which invests in future weapons systems including cyber defense, continues pivot of assets to the Asia-Pacific region, and adds $25 billion to industry above what Congress approved last year.

Republicans are saying the sequestration repeal needs to happen in this congress, reports Federal Times, quoting Rep. Rob Wittman, (R-VA), chair of the House Armed Services subcommittee overseeing readiness and civilian employees.

Calling Hawaii  the “gateway” for the Pacific re-balance, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert said Pearl Harbor  will see a net gain of two surface ships by 2020, reports Military.com.

RADM Filipowski served under former NSA director Gen. Keith Alexander and currently works on information dominance (N2/N6) for the Chief of Naval Operations, ADM Jonathan Greenert.

The company that built the antenna reflectors on the Mobile User Objective System satellites the Navy uses for high-bandwidth global communications is looking to produce lightweight antennas to significantly reduce satellite weight and thus launching costs, reports Defense Systems.

Engility Holdings won a $27.5 million contract for technical services support to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Systems Division of the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Department (NAWCAD) at Patuxent River, MD and St. Inigoes, MD to assist the Navy develop automated aerial refueling with commercial and military tankers and manned and unmanned air systems, reports Street Insider. The majority of the work will be done out of Engility’s Hollywood, MD, office.
