Sue Gelrud As Walden continues to celebrate 40 years of helping the tri-county area overcome behavioral health issues, we are proud to highlight those who have made four decades of community building possible. Walden is a nonprofit serving St. Marys, Calvert and Prince Georges counties, enabling, teaching and facilitating healthy behavior, and providing trauma and recovery services. With outpatient care for both adolescents and adults, as well as residential drug and alcohol treatments for adults, Walden works to help many community members improve their lives.

Sue Gelrud served as the president of the board for 20 years, and was a key player in the development of Sierra House, a “first of its kind” home for those seeking treatment. Sue currently works with and sits on the board of Three Oaks, another community building organization which also tries to communicate and work with Walden to provide vital services to the community.

Walden offers many treatments and services specially designed to meet individual needs of adolescents and adults seeking help with drug and alcohol problems. They assess each individual and suggest the least restrictive level of care that will still meet their treatment needs. During recovery, counselors at Walden encourage strong family and friend involvement and support. Outpatient services range from early intervention to intensive outpatient services and include individual and group counseling services.
