Veterans Resource Day Set Nov. 9
Finding just the right information for veterans can be difficult, but a one-stop shop can fix that. On Nov. 9, 2016, the College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown Campus will host a Veterans Resource Day, sponsored by the St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services.
The event will take place in Building A on the campus at 29950 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown.
From 9 am to 1 pm, veterans, retirees, and their family members can take advantage of on-site counseling, guest speakers, and informational displays that can help veterans and their families find valuable resources. If anyone is not able to attend, a phone bank will be available to take calls for any questions and information. Call 301-475-4200, ext. 2600.
The groups and vendors that are already signed up to participate include Paralympics, the Wounded Warrior Project, Fleet and Family Support, Habitat for Humanity, Three Oaks Veterans Resource Center, Disabled American Veterans, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Veterans of Foreign Wars, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Washington Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services.
Many government and non-profit agencies work together to make service the nation’s service men and women and their families get the help they need after they leave the military. Veterans resources can include anything from medical information to counseling to social groups that provide support and ways for veterans to find other veterans and families with similar experiences.
These groups are essential to ensuring members of the military are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve after serving for the country’s freedom. Veterans service groups can provide help with employment and job placement, housing, and ways to navigate the health care system. Events like the Veterans Resource Day, sponsored by the St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services, help veterans in suburban communities like St. Mary’s County find the help they need closer to home.
