Math Girls Day Gets a Permanent Sponsor
After having to be downsized due to lack of funding, a popular semi-annual program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland has gotten a permanent sponsor. Math Girls Day, hosted by the Women in Science House Living Learning Community, or WiSH, is now being sponsored by Mathnasium.
Jr. VEX IQ Challenge Seeks Volunteers
The Southern Maryland Junior VEX IQ Challenge is set for Jan. 14, 2017, in St. Mary’s County, and The Patuxent Partnership has issued a call for event volunteers. College of Southern Maryland and Great Mills High School are hosting the event at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center in Leonardtown.

Hoyer Praises John Glenn’s Many Achievements
Sen. John Glenn, 95, former naval aviator and astronaut and a source of local pride, died Dec. 8 at a Columbus, Ohio, hospital. He had been a test pilot at NAS Patuxent River in the 1940s.

The Leadership Southern Maryland Class of 2017 participated in the third of nine educational programs, Defense and Industry, for the 2016-17 LSM class. The program included a tour at NAS Patuxent River.

Math Circle Meets Dec. 10
The Southern Maryland Math Circle has kicked off its new season at the Lexington Park Library. The next session will be from 10 am to noon Saturday, Dec. 10. The library is at 21677 FDR Blvd. in Lexington Park.
CSM Hosts Veterans Day Breakfast
The College of Southern Maryland celebrates members of its community – students, faculty and staff members – who have served in the armed forces. In alignment with the country’s celebrations of military veterans on Veterans Day, the college held a Veterans Day breakfast Nov. 9 at the Center for Business and Industry Building at the La Plata Campus.
