Walden Holding Recovery Walk

Walden Recovery Walk

Walden Sierra hopes to kick-off an ongoing celebration of the lived experience of recovery from addiction and/or trauma on Saturday, Oct. 22, when the organization will host the first Recovery Walk in St. Mary’s County in Leonardtown.

This event features an easy three quarter-mile walk accessible to all mobility levels and suitable for pets, strollers or wheelchairs.  We encourage participants of all ages, and pets on a leash are welcome!  In addition to the walk, the event includes an Open Mic session for participants to speak about the life and work of recovery or to honor others who struggling to overcome addictive disease or traumatic experiences.  The morning will also include art-making activities and a light breakfast.

There is no cost to participate in this event, although donations are gratefully accepted and are tax deductible.  Event t-shirts are available with a minimum donation of $5.  Any proceeds raised beyond the cost of the event will benefit Walden’s crisis and recovery support services or recovery community initiatives.  Walden is a community-based behavioral health non-profit that has served the community since 1973.  Walden sites include the Anchor Treatment Center, Compass Half-Way House and Hope Place of Walden.

This event is rain or shine!  Event day registration opens at the Leonard Hall Recreation Center at 8:30 a.m., with the walk beginning at 9 a.m.  The Open Mic Sharing Session will begin at approximately 9:45 a.m.  Individuals interested in pre-registering and reserving a t-shirt may contact Laura Webb at 301-997-1300 x 804 or [email protected].

Walden thanks Wyle, Jane and Dan Ichniowski, and the Hon. Steny Hoyer for supporting the Recovery Discovery 2011 celebration.
