Walden Events Highlight Recovery Month

With the theme of Visible, Vocal, Valuable, Walden has created three events for the community to help highlight September as National Recovery Month.
National Recovery Month celebrates the ways people recover from addiction and other mental and behavioral healthy concerns. The month explores the benefits of recovery to individuals, families and the community.

“The theme this year is Visible, Vocal, Valuable, and that sums up the positive impact that folks in recovery largely have on themselves, their families, and their communities,” says Laura Webb, Recovery Support Director at Walden. “Community and family support can be key to recovery, and within the story of a person in recovery we often find a community and family story.”

The events are open to the community.

1) A “Recovery is a Treasure” Block Party will be held on Sunday, Sept. 27th from 1 to 4 pm at Beacon of Hope Recovery and Wellness Center in Millison Plaza, Lexington Park. Everything at the event will cost just one penny! Activities include food, games, a tent yard sale, music, and a recovery treasure hunt with prizes. Event is rain or shine and family friendly!

2) Rides to the Fed Up! Rally in DC: multiple pick up/return points in Southern Maryland for anyone who would like to attend The Fed Up Rally as a group on Saturday, Oct. 3. The Rally begins on the National Mall and ends with a peaceful march to the White House. The goal is to create one voice calling for an end to the epidemic of addiction and overdose deaths attributed to opioids (including heroin) and other prescription drugs. Walden is taking reservations to Ride the Recovery Bus with Us to this event at 301-997-1300, ext. 804, or [email protected].

3) Rides to the Unite to Face Addiction event in DC on Sunday, Oct. 4: multiple pick up/return points in Southern Maryland for anyone who would like to attend this historic event at the National Mall featuring music and speakers, banding together to help the 22 million Americans with addiction, stand up for the 23 million more in recovery, and urgently act to save the 350 lives lost daily. Walden is taking reservations to Ride the Recovery Bus with Us to this event at 301-997-1300, ext. 804, or [email protected].
