SMHEC Presents Film Festival

Bridges to the World” international film festival will present its final showing March 2,  “Vent” (2013) and ‘Cham (Leaves of Damascus)” (2015) from Syria.

The concluding films wrap up the 2016, five week series held annually at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in California, Md.

The Bridges to the World evenings began the first week of February in the SMHEC’s Center Hall, Building II, 44219 Airport Road, California, MD 20619.

The movies start at 6:30 p.m.

The films have been chosen and sponsored by the embassies of their respective countries. Each of the five films will be introduced, screened, and followed by a discussion.

All films will be shown with English subtitles.

Tickets are not required for the free screening. However, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The “Bridges to the World” film series is a statewide, month-long initiative in recognition of the state’s global reach and a reflection of those connections here in Maryland.

World Artists Experiences and the International Division of Maryland’s Office of the Secretary of State, in conjunction with the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, Frostburg University, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Salisbury, and Towson University invite the public to attend the free screenings of the international films.

The other films shown this season were  “Cupcakes” from Israel, “Kruté radosti (Cruel Joys)” from Slovakia, “Bamboo Flowers” from Philippines, and “Rompiendo la ola (Breaking the Wave) from Panama.”
