Sept. Jobs Report: Growth Continues

Hoyer Earns High Score From LCV
Posted for Congressman Steny Hoyer

September’s jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that our economy added 236,000 private sector jobs, marking the fifty-fifth consecutive month of growth, and the unemployment rate fell to 5.9% – the first time it has dropped below 6% since July 2008. This is another indicator that our economy continues to improve after the deepest recession in a generation.

At the same time, Congress must take action to ensure this growth continues.  I will continue to push forward with our Make It In America jobs plan and with our efforts to jump-start the middle class by raising the minimum wage, ensuring that women receive the equal pay they have earned, and facilitating greater access to quality education at every level.

Congress should never tell Americans that they are on their own. The American people deserve a Congress that is on their side and I remain committed to seeking every opportunity to take meaningful action to help our economy become more competitive, spur manufacturing growth, and provide certainty to businesses so they can invest here with confidence.
