Saving Taxpayers Dollars

Make it In America
Posted for Congressman Steny Hoyer

In Lexington Park, MD, home of the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer spent a morning in the manufacturing facility of J.F. Taylor, Inc., a homegrown success story.

Supporting Congressman Hoyer’s premise, that American manufacturing holds the key to economic growth in this nation, during his visit to J.F. Taylor during his  Make It In America tour, company president Wayne Taylor described ways his firm had successfully grown itself and how today it was saving taxpayer dollars on the smart development of products for the US military.

“Five years after Make It In America first launched, our economy has significantly changed,” according to the Office of the Democratic Whip’s website, “and we are facing a different economic landscape.”

That landscape today demands economic growth in addition to cost cutting. In the video tour below of  J.F. Taylor’s manufacturing facility, Congressman Hoyer learns not only how this homegrown, family owned business successfully grew into a 300-person company and uses the ingenuity of its people to save money for the government as well.

Since Congressman Steny Hoyer launched his Make It In America initiatives five years ago, he and his colleagues continue to explore the challenges and opportunities for job creation and economic growth facing American businesses. Mr. Hoyer has queried his district’s business leaders and company owners on what they need to succeed. The Make It in America initiatives are developed from what is learned from working businesses.

“The economy has changed significantly since 2010, which is why I’m hearing from economic experts, business and labor leaders, and local businesses on the challenges and opportunities they face today, and how the Make It In America plan should be updated to reflect today’s environment,” Rep. Hoyer said.

Following a series of Congressional hearings this summer to help Congress determine how best to support the nation’s businesses, workers, innovators, and entrepreneurs, Rep. Hoyer launched and continues a tour of  Maryland businesses. He is asking what they need and listening to what Make It In America initiatives to fit the needs of companies in his Maryland District 5 and across the nation.
