Patuxent Habitat for Humanity is celebrating the grand opening of the ReStore at 10 am Saturday, Sept. 19 at 21600 Great Mills Road, in St. Mary’s Square.

The ReStore is a great place to find home improvement materials at a discounted price! The donated items are sold at a fraction of the retail cost. The non-profit store is operated by volunteers.

Patuxent Habitat for Humanity is an organization that brings people from all walks of life together to help their neighbors realize better lives by providing decent, affordable housing in both Calvert and St. Mary’s counties. The local organization was created in 2003.

PHH uses volunteer labor and donations of money and materials to build houses, which are sold at no profit to selected families with no-interest loans. The affordable monthly mortgage payments are repaid over 20 or 30 years, and the money is used to support the construction of more houses.

The families do not just move in when the houses are built. They invest “sweat equity” into the construction of their own houses, producing a feeling of ownership and pride among the family members and positive relationships with the community.

Families are chosen through an application process. Patuxent Habitat for Humanity follows a non-discriminatory policy of family selection. All applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

The funding for PHH comes from donations receives from local people, churches, corporations, and foundations, as well as mortgage payments from previously built homes.

Patuxent Habitat for Humanity is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Local affiliates do not receive any portion of undesignated donations made to Habitat for Humanity International. Donations are distributed as designated by the donor.

The ReStore is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm. Learn more at the Patuxent Habitat for Humanity website.
