When D.J. “Widebody” Brown organized a school supply give-away in Lexington Park, St. Mary’s NAACP helped expand the program into the north end of St. Mary’s County as well. The giveaway in advance of the 2012-2013 school year was held in the Oakville Recreation Center on Kavanaugh Road last weekend.

The new school year has begun and it’s imperative that we be aware of what’s going on in our school system.  The NAACP has an ongoing relationship with the Board of Education (BOE) and as parents, students or concerned citizens you are invited to attend these meetings.  The meetings usually last about 3 hours but you should find the time to attend these meetings, whenever possible.  Now’s the time, the beginning of the new school year, to hear what the BOE is doing for our children and to voice your concerns, if there are any.  You should arrive early to sign up to speak if you’d like to.

The meeting will be held at the St. Mary’s County Board of Education Monthly Meeting, Wednesday, August 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Board of Education Building at 23160 Moakley Street in Leonardtown.

Also, the General Monthly Meeting of the St. Mary’s County Branch of the NAACP will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 in the  SMECO Building Meeting Room at 23365 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown.
