March Plays, Literary Events & Song at CSM

CSM’s Art & Literary month of March wraps up with song, featuring the CSM Barbershop Extravaganza, March 28, 4 p.m. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Theater, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Southern Mix, directed by Paul Douglass, will be joined by professional ensembles for an afternoon of barbershop harmony. $5 in advance, $7 day of event. CSM Cause Theatre opened CSM’s March plays, literary events & songs at the three CSM Southern Maryland campuses:

All Out” opens in Leonardtown, MD, March 6, 8 p.m., College of Southern Maryland, Leonardtown Campus, Building A, Auditorium, 22950 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown.

This play follows contestants on a game show, but it turns out that everyone ends up a participant. The show begins as a typical contest, but as it peels away at the exterior of the contestants, the debasing price of success begins to be revealed. $5, all ages. A matinee plays in Calvert County, March 5, 2:30 p.m. College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus, Building B, Multipurpose  Room, 115 J.W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick.

“All Out” will also be performed March 12, 7:30 p.m. and March 13-14 8 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Theater, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata.

Also at the Charles County campus the CSM Connections Literary Series continues with Ron Capps and Dr. Fred Foote, March 6, 7:30 p.m., College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Center for Business and Industry (BI) Building, Dr. John M. Sine Conference Room, BI-103, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata.

The award-winning writers and veterans Ron Capps and Dr. Fred Foote will discuss their time in the U.S. Military and how it has influenced their literary writing. [email protected], 301-934-7864, more information here.

The CSM Children’s Theatre will be performing “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” March 6, 7 p.m., March 7, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Theater, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Based on a short tale by Hans Christian Andersen, this performance is about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes that is invisible to those unfit for their positions. $7 adults/seniors, $5 youth. Buffalo Soldier, William Cathay: An Oral History, March 12, 2:30 to 4 p.m. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Center for Business and Industry (BI) Building, Chaney Enterprises Conference Room, BI-113, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. The CSM Institutional  Equity and Diversity Office hosts an historical presentation on the first African-American female to enlist in the U.S. Army. Posing as a man  under the pseudonym William Cathay, she served for nearly two years before being medically discharged. Co-sponsored by CSM’s Veterans  Organization. Free.
