On March 5 the final installment of the Bridges to the World International Film Festival will be shown at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center.  Admission is free and the film begins at 6:30 pm.

A Stubborn Memory functions as a manifestation of the politics of memory, bringing to the forefront of history horrific events that have been hidden, or are in danger of being forgotten.

A Stubborn Memory spotlights Boris Pahor as a means to explore Fascism, genocide, the importance of confronting the past, and national identity. The documentary is structured around Pahor’s 97th birthday celebration at the Cankarjev Dom Cultural and Congress Center in Ljubliana. A Stubborn Memory recaptures interviews with many important historians and literary critics as they discuss the significance of Pahor’s work and cultural activism.

Pahor, the most internationally honored Slovenian writer, turned 100 in August 2013. He was awarded the European Citizen’s Prize, an award given to individuals and groups in recognition of their contributions to a mutual understanding and closer ties between nations in the European Union. The film received a 2013 Erasmus EuroMedia Medal of Excellence award for Documentary/Report.
