Hoyer Calls for Bipartisan Jobs Action

Posted for Congressman Steny Hoyer

“[The] strong jobs report for October makes it clear that our economy is steadily adding jobs and that there is potential for further growth if Congress can take action in a bipartisan way.  With 209,000 private sector jobs created and the unemployment rate falling to 5.8%, in the fifty-sixth consecutive month of private sector job gains, the ingredients for strong growth and a more competitive economy are there.  All we need now is a Congress ready to act and tap this potential by investing in education, innovation, and infrastructure and by encouraging businesses to locate and expand here in America.

“Over the coming weeks and months, House Democrats will continue to reach across the aisle to promote our agenda of creating jobs and expanding opportunities by growing our manufacturing base.  The Make It In America plan I’ve led, which has strong support from business, labor, economists, and the public, already includes a number of bills that ought to be able to pass both the House and Senate and be signed into law.  At the same time, I join the business community in urging Congress to enact bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform that will advance fiscal sustainability, help spur economic growth, and boost American competitiveness.

“In the final weeks of the 113th Congress, I will continue to push for measures that create jobs, and I look forward to working with newly elected Members in January to do the same.  Congress owes it to the American people to pursue bipartisan action on these pressing issues, especially when it comes to creating jobs and growing our economy.”
