St. Mary’s City, MD — Fans of Halloween who have out-grown ghosts and over-indulging in candy are invited to enjoy a sophisticated slant on the holiday at the Grave Matters Masquerade Ball. Festivities will take place in the State House at Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC) on Oct. 27.  Witching hours are from 6:30 until 9:30 in the evening.

The Gretchen Richie Jazz Cabaret will set the mood for dancing and a delectable array of heavy hors d’oeuvres by Expressions of St. Mary’s will keep the energy high. Visit the cash bar for your favorite magic potion;  water, coffee, and ice tea are included in admission.  Take a  brief guided tour of HSMC’s historical sites by moonlight and imagine a time when anyone concerned about their well-being stayed clear of  bad humors and the evil eye.  Maryland’s colonists will offer a glimpse of their days and nights that’s entertaining, illuminating, and possibly haunting.   Come dressed as your favorite character – historical, fictional, or comical  – and your first drink is on us!

Admission is $40/person ($35 Friends) or $75/couple.  Reservations are required; contact the Visitor Center 240-895-4990 or e-mail info@stmaryscity.org. This event is made possible by the generous support of Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Homes and the Historic St. Mary’s City Foundation.
