Federal Marketplace for Health Insurance Opens

Posted for Congressman Steny Hoyer

Open enrollment for plans through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace for 2015 began Nov. 15, 2014.

The open enrollment allows Americans  to shop for affordable health insurance for 2015 through the federal health insurance marketplace, to renew their coverage, or sign up for the first time.

By visiting www.healthcare.gov, individuals can browse available plans to learn about coverage options for themselves and their families – as well as eligibility for cost-saving tax credits.  After identifying the best option that works for them, they have until February 15, 2015, to enroll.  However, they must sign up by December 15 in order for coverage to begin on January 1, 2015.

“With protections for those with pre-existing conditions, measures that bar discrimination against women, a ban on lifetime or annual coverage limits, more plan options than last year, and tax credits to make coverage more affordable, there are so many reasons why Americans who are uninsured or underinsured ought to visit the health care website,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer in a press release issued to alert citizens to the open enrollment window.

Those without access to the internet or who prefer not to enroll online can get information and sign up through the Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-889-4325).
