End Domestic Violence: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
Posted for Walden Behavioral HealthAnother successful partnership with St. Mary’s College of Maryland brought out community and students to Walk a Mile in Her Shoes last week. See the video below.
Helping Walden spread the message that EVERYONE is responsible for ending and preventing Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence was the red program flyer. The red reflected the large, red, high heeled shoes piled on tables for walkers.
On the back of the flyer were these preventative and supportive statements as well as some shocking statistics.
Society teaches “don’t get raped,” rather than “don’t rape” — Let’s Change This!
Street Harassment is NOT a compliment. It is not consent if you make me afraid to say no. Sexual Assault is not a “women’s issue,” it is EVERYONE’S ISSUE. Victims/Survivors of sexual assault are three times more likely to experience depression. One in five college women are sexually assaulted. Ninety percent of the time it is by someone they know. One in four women in the military experience rape or attempted rape during their service. False reports of rape occur only two percent of the time. More than 300,000 women and 90,000 men REPORT being raped each year. At least 68 percent of cases are NOT REPORTED, rape is the most under-reported Crime.
