Internationally renown local artist Carolyn Egeli is offering a special opportunity this year, opening a series of workshops that include a wide array of interests.

Within the workshops Ms. Egeli offers instruction in figure painting, pleine air, still life, marines, animal drawing, large paintings, sketchbook and drawing skills. Her mission is to fill the “tool box” of each participating artist’s skills and interests.

Ms. Egeli continues her successful career as a professional artist launched more than 40 years ago. She comes from an artistic family with parents and siblings who are world-renowned as well. She maintains a prolific schedule of portraiture as well as work on an array of subjects, many intended to capture disappearing cultures and landscapes of America.

Throughout her career she has offered workshops. “I always learn from students,” she says. “And sharing what I have learned is tremendously rewarding and inspirational for me. I want to make learning inspirational for my students as well.”

However all skill levels participate in the workshops and develop a strong understanding of art.  Foundation workshops are offered as the need arises, with one currently scheduled in September 2014. Contact Ms. Egeli  if you would like to participate or even create your own workshop with a few friends with similar interests.

The current series opened in March with a three-day workshop on the basic foundations of art, beginning with light, shadow (values), color theory, perspective and compositions. A survey of art materials and some skills such as stretching canvases, etc are included as time permits. Students were given demonstrations with simple objects and then moved on to develop their own still lifes.Egeli - indiv instruction still life

The Foundations workshop was followed up with an April intensive three-day workshop on developing a successful still life from beginning to end, with students creating a still life with Ms. Egeli. Different approaches to painting a still life were also explored, from the classical shadow box to the sunlit one.

The workshops will continue through the rest of the year with a workshop in May to include painting outdoors in oil in addition to gathering notes and drawings in your sketchbookEgeli - class on pier.

September’s workshops will focus on marine painting, and also include another Foundations Workshop later in the month. In October students will learn how to develop large paintings from sketches and photos. The year will wrap up with a figure-drawing workshop in November and a student holiday party.

All workshops are located at the artist’s home on the water in beautiful Southern Maryland. Lunches are provided, as well as the picturesque scenery to soak up while on breaks.
