Donate Blood at February Drives

Gift of Life

Winter can be a difficult time for blood donations to the American Red Cross. Bad weather and cold temperatures can keep donors from coming to blood drives, so the Red Cross is appealing to donors to stop by and donate blood at a February drive.

All eligible donors are needed, but there is a particular need for types O, AB, B negative and A negative.

Donated blood is used to respond to emergencies all across the country every day. It saves the lives of people who have been in accidents, as well as people who need donated blood for treatments of diseases.

One mother, Heather Von Glahn, committed to donating blood regularly after she saw her 8-year-old daughter’s life saved by blood donations during treatment for leukemia.

“I’ve seen blood save her life at least 10 times,” Von Glahn said. “When friends and family ask what they can do for my daughter, I tell them to donate blood. It matters so much.”

Blood donations are urgently needed now and throughout the winter to maintain a sufficient blood supply for patients in need. Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Blood drives are planned.
