Southern Maryland Originals kicked off its third season of live performances of locally written plays, songs and poetry with a press and family preview Monday night at the College of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown campus.

The show was a mixture of music and poetry anchored by five one-act plays written, directed and acted by local artists. A Happy Life presents the issue of reproductive rights in the form of a domestic dispute. Miracle at Downtown Alley chronicles the salvation of a home for the poor from the threat of foreclosure. The tone lightens considerably in The Set Up, a sparkling romantic comedy about the nature of identity. Vicky follows the strange tale of a journalism student assigned to interview a woman who claims to be a vampire. And Middle Ground examines the conflict between a liberal writer and a religious conservative political candidate.

The show is scheduled to run at the CSM Leonardtown auditorium Nov. 14 – 17 at 7:30 p.m. A student night is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. And there is a 2 p.m. matinee scheduled for Nov. 18.
