Building Steam for STEAM at PaxSpace

Posted for The Patuxent Partnership

Something new is starting at PaxSpace over the next couple of months: Curiosity Hacked.

Curiosity Hacked is an inclusive, diverse, co-ed organization designed to support the next generation of makers, explorers, entrepreneurs, and leaders through an innovative program that blends creativity and technical skill through the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM).

PaxSpace is a non-profit, community-operated Makerspace in the St. Mary’s Industrial Park on Airport View Dr., Hollywood, MD. Think of it as a “community center with tools,” suggests Makerspace.com. PaxSpace offers workspace and storage for members to pursue projects from tech to art, fostering the spirit of “make it in America” and strengthening our local Southern Maryland community.

Classes and training are offered as well. The volunteers who run the 501(c)(3) non-profit, welcomes kids ages 4-14. The Guild’s Sparks program is for younger children (4-7) who are ready and interested in basic skill building and concepts. Older Guild members (8+) practice more complex skill building and focus on their individual goals while building relationships within our community. Our current “PaxSpace Kids” program will continue but will be re-branded as “Open Lab” but will continue to be free to the public.

Curiosity Hacked encourages the relentless pursuit of knowledge through relevant hands-on activities, mentorship, community, and family engagement, and the development of a strong moral character and leadership skills through our core values.

“We currently have two information sessions scheduled,” says Nick Clark Vice Presiden of PaxSpace Inc.
