New Book Club to Focus on Business and Leadership
Two Southern Maryland businesswomen are launching a book club in Southern Maryland with the aim of starting a conversation about leadership among its participants.
“The Read 2 Lead book club is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” said Emily Harman, who will launch the club with Kim Mozingo on Oct. 18 at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center next to the St. Mary’s County Airport.
The club is designed to explore and grow leadership capabilities through discussion of literature in the field. In addition to the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, the club is supported by Leadership Southern Maryland and membership is open to the public.
Read 2 Lead’s first book is “The Starfish and The Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations” by Ori Brafman and Rod A. Beckstrom. Future titles will be chosen by participants.
Ms. Harman and Ms. Mozingo anticipate the club providing a forum for leaders across the area and in addition provide learning opportunities for those seeking to enhance their leadership skills.
“We need to continue to grow our leadership capability locally,” Ms. Harman said.
“The book club will provide a forum for leadership dialog,” said Ms. Mozingo. “The group setting lends itself to developing actionable ways to practice what we learn. … We have a wealth of leadership experience in our community. Emily and I believe education is paramount in leading change and transformation. And so do the people of the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center and Leadership Southern Maryland. We are very proud to have their partnership with the launching of effort.”
